We are seeking a talented Senior Mechanical Engineer to become part of our Hydropower and Dams team in our Niagara Falls office. This is a position for which your focus will be to support and execute hydro and dam-related projects and ensure technical excellence within the existing team. You will be part of a dynamic, multidisciplinary team providing engineering services to large and small hydropower and dams owners in Ontario, across Canada, and globally.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Perform system analyses, establish user requirements, analyze system functional and performance requirements, define design criteria, and provide input to the design team on layouts and designs
  • Leading and managing the process of engineering commitments in accordance with scope, schedule, budget and procedures to ensure successful project completion
  • Interfacing with other engineering disciplines involved in projects, as required
  • Taking ownership of the high level technical deliverables
  • Developing preliminary and detailed designs as well as overseeing and guiding the preparation of mechanical drawings and engineering specifications for construction
  • Being an active participant in technical design reviews and calculation checks
  • Providing mentoring, coaching, technical guidance and quality assurance to other engineers in order to ensure the technical adequacy of engineering work
  • Prepare technical specifications based on input received from other disciplines
  • Manage and review engineering work packages associated with project deliverables including management of project budgets and schedule
  • Prepare, review or approve technical deliverables such as equipment designs, specifications, data sheets, calculations, etc.
  • Prepare and contribute to technical memos and reports, within areas of expertise
  • Provide input to engineering, operating and capital cost estimates
  • Prepare, review or approve project standard specifications and design criteria
  • Provide input to 3D models and 2D mechanical drawings
  • Participate in and contribute to design reviews
  • Assist in the commissioning of systems on site as required
  • Follow company standard quality procedures
  • Prepare or provide input to proposals in the area of expertise

You bring to the role:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering
  • A Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering would be considered an asset
  • Registration as a Professional Engineer in Ontario or other Canadian Province (candidates with strong international experience and eligibility for P Eng. designation in Canada will be considered)
  • A minimum of 10 years of professional experience preferably roating equipment
  • Experience working on hydropower projects (i.e., dams and gates) nice to have
  • Proficiency with Computer Design Tools (Mathcad, AutoCAD, Inventor, Solidworks) will be considered an asset
  • Experience with Finite Element Analysis (FEA) programs
  • Knowledge of Canadian and provincial codes and standards
  • Strong client focus and a desire to achieve results including the ability to manage multiple priorities and time lines
  • Experience in leading small and large mechanical teams in multi-disciplinary projects
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Good planning and organizational skills
  • Ability to function with minimal supervision
  • Ability to delegate tasks and effectively supervise engineers and designers
